Frost Advisory #721 – Why Is Your Radio Station On The Air?

Let’s have a little fun.

Tune to another Christian music radio station for 30 minutes, it can be one in your market or somewhere beyond, and listen to hear if they communicate their mission statement. You know, those scribblings on their walls, or their bumper stickers, or their post it notes and tee shirts.

In 30 minutes, do you as a listener get any sense of WHY this station is on the air?

I’ll wait.

(For the analyticals in the room I am not suggesting that you cut ‘n paste a phrase from the company letterhead and use it as a liner 19 times an hour. That would sound really squirrelly. I am suggesting, however, that whatever your station’s BIG IDEA is be forefront as you communicate to your listeners and fans.).

Now for the part that isn’t much fun.

Now do the same with your own station. Gulp! Oh, that’s a different deal.

In 30 minutes, do you as a listener get any sense of your own station’s mission statement?

*Inspired by a conversation with my pal Brant Hansen. A thinker, don’tcha know.
