Frost Advisory #429 – “It’s What You Learn After You Know It All That Counts”

Being a lifelong learner is a great gift, as reflected in Coach John Wooden’s famous quote.

“Each of us is becoming, becoming something better or something worse.  And we become what we teach and what we learn.”

Seth Godin

I have an idea.

If you’re one of the hundreds of Christian radio/music pros to descend on CMB’s Momentum this week in Orlando, open yourself up to learning.  The great irony is that the higher one is in the organizational chart the less inclined toward a learning spirit – just when they need it the most.

“It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

Epictetus

more the knowledge, lesser the ego... lesser the knowledge, more the go. Albert Einstein

But learning goes beyond knowledge alone.

Knowledge is knowing the facts.

Understanding is the ability to glean meaning from those facts.  Often that involves seeing things in context, perhaps relating to circumstances, best practices, or strategy.

Wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge.

Consider this:  “In any given situation, God rarely gives all three gifts to any one person.”

We must learn to depend on those whose gifts are different from our own.  Michelle Younkman and her talented CMB team have spent countless hours paving the way for great thinkers to speak new ideas into your life.

“Wisdom is the right use of knowledge.  To know is not to be wise.  Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it.  There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool.  But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.”

Charles Spurgeon
