The turning of the calendar to September welcomes new seasons in our lives.
It could be college football season. Or pumpkin spice latte season. Or back to school season.
And, of course, there is the political season. One that can seemingly bring out the worst in us. Even with our friends.
My friend Randy’s Facebook tirades are the most extreme left wing drivel you can imagine. My friend Gort, a self-described liberal, has totally blocked his rants and hides under the bed when he calls. And they are best friends!
My friend Cooper is as right wing as a one legged chicken. He can’t even mention Biden’s, er, Kamala’s name without the liberal use of expletives.
Yes, examples of the lesser versions of ourselves are abundant. But our stations have the opportunity to tell a better story.
My friends at KLTY in Dallas-Ft. Worth recently gave away $1,000 to someone playing along. But that’s the ordinary part. They also gave that listener $1,000 to share with a friend.
That simple gesture inspired dozens of stories of generosity. The promotion transformed from one based upon greed (“Give me money”) to one of generosity and living out a better version of themselves. (Top of the Brand Value Pyramid, don’tcha know!).
“The people we surround ourselves with either raise or lower our standards. They either help us become the best-version-of-ourselves or become lesser versions of ourselves. We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, who remind us of our eternal purpose, and challenge us to become the best version-of-ourselves.”
John C. Maxwell
KLTY is helping their listeners to realize a better version of themselves. And that’s something we can all agree on!
